Photo guidelines

The clearer the photo, the better the drawing. Four things matter most:

• Good light. Daylight if you can. No harsh shadows across the face and no strong light behind the person.
• Face the camera. Both eyes showing, no sunglasses, nothing covering the face. That is where the likeness lives.
• Get up close. The face should fill a good part of the frame. Distant figures come out vague.
• One clear shot. No motion blur. One person per photo works best; a group photo works too if every face is clear.

Groups and pets

Up to six people or pets per portrait: upload one photo per person, or one group shot. Pets keep their own colouring.

Files

JPG, PNG, WebP and iPhone HEIC photos, up to 12 MB each. Screenshots and heavily filtered photos give weaker results.
